In breaking news… we’re back for again!!! The Yamaha NZ Festival of Freeride is returning again for its 6th instalment. Yeow!!!
Karioitahi Beach, Waiuku will once again play host to the event which will be held on Friday 16th and Saturday the 17th of February 2018 (Sunday 18th will be a back up for horrendous conditions). Make sure you lock it in your calendars today – its just under 4 months away!!!
Its with great pleasure once again that we can announce Yamaha New Zealand as title sponsors of the event. Their support of the event is paramount to its success each year and without them we wouldn’t be where we are today. So thanks Yamaha NZ.
More info will follow over the next few weeks. Entries will be available to any skill level and we hope to see all of you again from last years’ event and some new faces. We encourage anyone participating or interested in freeride to come along and enjoy riding with others of all experience levels. Remember – this isn’t a competition – its all about having FUN!!!

It has been just on 3 weeks since we kicked off the 5th Anniversary Yamaha NZ Festival of Freeride event and we’re still recovering. What a ripper!! Once again we grew from the previous year and this is a testament to the ever growing freeride scene in New Zealand.
The event simply wouldn’t happen without our great sponsors. Firstly, thank you to Kim and the team at Yamaha Marine NZ. For the last 5 years Yamaha has stepped up to the plate as title sponsors. We simply wouldn’t be where we are today without them. So a massive thank you again to Yamaha NZ.
Our major sponsors this year were amazing. Otago Personal Watercraft, 701 Industries, Krash Industries, and Farnleys Jetskis all got on beard again. We also had a couple of new sponsors join the crew – a big thank you to the Colliers International – South Island for their support and to the lads from Quake City Freeride – awesome support guys. We hope you all enjoyed the event as much as we did.
Since the inaugural event the team from Rogers Boat Shop have been a key ingredient to the success of the event. Their commitment to provide some great food for everyone throughout the weekend brings everyone together and really does add to the family atmosphere. The team at Rogers Boatshop are legends.
A huge thank you to Leif from Jet Sport West for providing our marshalling services all weekend long. It is an absolute pleasure to have Leif involved with the event and his ability on the water in the surf is second to none. Thanks also to the team at Medical & Safety Consulting for their efforts too.
To the generous support of ilabb, KP Parts, Random Performance, Gull New Zealand, Rickter RRP, MX100, JetManiac, Element Engineering, CRC Industries NZ, Thrust Innovations, Jet Renu, Hydroturf, JetPilot, Blaster Boyz, VICFA, Stroker Industries, OZfreeride, NZfreeride, ProRider Magazine, Glenbrook Performance, and MB Fabrications – Thank you so very much. All of these sponsors made sure you had some fantastic product and swag to choose from at the prize giving. A special thanks to Red Bull for their support of the event ensuring everyone was suitably energised for ripping it up.
Every year we say this – “Support those that support the sport!!!”. There are so many events on these days and for the these sponsors to choose to support and for us to be chosen is very humbling.
To everyone that entered the 5th Anniversary event – thank you so very much for supporting the only free ride event in New Zealand. It’s fantastic how everyone gets together each year and everyone’s attitude at the event really make for a special experience. A large number of you had a long way to travel so we greatly appreciate you making the effort to enter and attend the event.
To all the others that have contributed to the event this year thank you so much. From those that helped out with timing and monitoring to ensuring things kept running smoothly – you know who you are. Thank you to everyone that chipped in with setting up, running, and packing down the event. Awesome stuff and was very much appreciated. I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone but if so I apologise.
Finally, and without further ado, Guy Mac has worked his magic on an edit for this year’s event. Make sure you go full screen, HD on, and plenty of sound. Enjoy….
For the last few years Rogers Boatshop have been an integral part of the Yamaha NZ Festival of Freeride. A key ingredient to the success of the event. We’re over the moon to have them back on board again this year. Make sure you chat to the team over a bite to eat at the event. They might just have a deal for you. Thanks To Nigel and the team at Rogers Boatshop.
We’re super pumped to have Mr Krash himself in attendance and throwing down at the Yamaha NZ Festival of Freeride. Make sure you have a chat to him about all that Krash has on offer and in the works. Great to have you Neville Bartos.
